What's a task?
A task is an action you do during your play.
That's it. The task you're doing should be informed by the play, complementing it and helping to deepen our understanding of what you’re trying to say. When selecting a task, it can be:
- Literal: Do what you're telling us.
- Antithetical: Do the opposite of what you're telling us.
- Emotional: Do something to bring out the emotion of your piece.
What does that mean?
Let's say your play is a monologue about how, in the last couple of year, all TVs have moved from SD (standard definition) to HD (high definition) and that really frustrates you because now when you watch something it looks really weird.
- For a Literal Task you could bring on two TVs and perform then your play literally showing us the difference between an SD and HDTV.
- For an Antithetical Task you could do something you find relaxing while performing your play, which is antithetical to the frustration you feel about the switch from SD to HDTV.
- For an Emotional Task you could untangle two TV Cords, showing the frustration you emotionally feel about the switch from SD to HDTV.
